Meeting at Larnaca airport where we will take our flight to Krakow with a stopover in Warsaw. Arrival, pick-up by our representatives and transfer to the hotel. Krakow is a jewel of the country with an inexhaustible history. Cradle of medieval trade and a great center of arts and sciences during the 16th century, it retains to this day the nobility of the Old World. It is located on the banks of the Vistula and is the cultural center of the country. Room arrangement and overnight stay.
After breakfast, our walking tour follows to get to know the beautiful city with the historic center almost completely pedestrianized. We will see Wawel Hill and the Gothic-style cathedral, where the coronation and burial of Polish Kings took place. We continue to the main square of Rynek Glovny, the largest medieval square in Europe where you can see the Christmas market with traditional sweets, mulled wine and local delicacies. We will also see the tower of the Town Hall, the old Sucenice fabric market, and observe the buildings of the old universities where the famous Polish astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus studied. Along the way we will see many interesting buildings, arcades, picturesque cafes and shops. Rest free
Day off. You can enjoy your brunch in the many cafes of the old town that open from 10 am. Walk through the historic center with the Christmas market, in Planty Park (the perimeter green ring around the walls). Stroll along the Vistula River to see Babel Castle from different angles. However, you will drink a chocolate at the famous Wendel chocolate shop. Optionally, you can visit some museums that are often open with special hours, such as Schindler's Factory Museum or MOCAK.
Breakfast and transfer to "Auschwitz" (German name) in the Polish city of Oswiecim, about 60 kilometers northwest of Krakow, where the Nazis turned the old military facilities into the most horrific concentration camp. Despite the fact that more than seventy years have passed since the liberation of the prisoners of the hellhole by the Russians, this name still causes horror today. What shocks the visitor, after crossing the threshold with the cynical inscription "Arbeit macht Frei" (work liberates), is the methodicality, the intensive study of the procedures and the construction of such infrastructures to ensure maximum efficiency in this project. Our visit today requires a strong stomach, especially when we will find ourselves in front of the exhibits with personal belongings, small shoes and children's clothes, many of which were of infancy when they were murdered. The highly organized museum, which receives more than 1,500,000 visitors annually, is highly instructive and serves as a serious warning about the dangers of totalitarianism and fanaticism of every hue. Return to Krakow.
Breakfast (breakfast box) and transfer to Krakow airport where we will take the return flight to Larnaca with a stopover in Warsaw.
