Meet at Larnaca Airport and depart with EgyptAir for Cairo Airport. Transfer to Alexandria (218 km, about 3 hours), a Mediterranean port city of Egypt. During the Hellenistic period, it was the seat of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the lighthouse of Alexandria, as well as the famous library. Upon our arrival we will be transferred to our hotel for check-in and overnight.
After breakfast, we start our tour of Alexandria with a visit to the Patriarchate of Alexandria. The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa, also known as the Greek Orthodox Church of Alexandria, is an autocephalous Patriarchate that is part of the Eastern Orthodox Church. It is headquartered in Alexandria and has canonical jurisdiction over the entire African continent. A panoramic tour of the city follows, during which we will pass by the exterior of the Qaitbay fortress and enjoy a panoramic view of the Montaza Palace, a palace-museum with extensive gardens that dominates east of the center of Alexandria overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. We'll visit the Library of Alexandria — the famed ancient library founded in the 3rd century BC, which was an important center of learning and philosophy. Last stop, the Catacombs of Kom El Sokafa, one of Alexandria's most impressive historical sites, known for its combination of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman architectural elements. They date back to the 2nd century AD and reflect the city's diverse cultural influences. Transfer to Cairo and check-in at our hotel. Night.
After breakfast, we start the tour of the Pyramids. Egyptian pyramids are ancient monumental structures, mainly tombs of pharaohs and their wives, built during the Old and Middle Kingdom period. We continue with the Great Sphinx of Giza, a limestone statue with the body of a lion and the head of a man. We will visit the brand new Grand Egyptian Museum, which houses more than 100,000 exhibits of ancient Egyptian civilization, including Tutankhamun's complete collection. We'll also see papyrus, a versatile material made from the papyrus plant and used for writing and everyday objects — a pivotal element in the evolution of Egyptian civilization. Afterwards, we will visit the famous Khan El Khalili market, known for its perfumes and souvenirs. Return to the hotel and overnight.
Breakfast and departure for the National Museum of Egyptian Culture (NMEC). In 1982, UNESCO, at the request of the Egyptian government, launched an international campaign to establish the Nubian Museum in Aswan and the NMEC in Cairo. The design of the museum is the work of an Egyptian architect who won an international competition. In 2017, the temporary exhibition "Egyptian Crafts through Different Eras" was inaugurated in the presence of the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova. This exhibition covers four key arts that shaped Egyptian culture: ceramics, carpentry, textiles, and jewelry. About 400 objects from various eras and screenings of short films that highlight the authenticity of Egyptian arts are presented. We continue with a visit to the Church of St. George, located within the ancient fortress of Babylon in Coptic Cairo — one of the most important Christian monuments in Egypt. Tour of Old Cairo and return to the hotel.
